Debbie Wasserman Schultz has served in the Florida legislature for the past 12 years. At 26 she was the youngest woman ever elected to the state House. In her first race, she won a 6-way primary, beating several candidates who significantly outspent her. During her 8 years in the state house, she served as Democratic Leader Pro Tempore, Democratic Floor Leader, and Chair of the Committee on Higher Education. She recently sponsored legislation that resulted in the creation of the Children’s Services Council for Broward County and successfully passed a law that will protect toddlers from accidental drowning in swimming pools. Prior to her election, she worked as a legislative aide to then State Representative Peter Deutsch.
Wasserman Schultz serves on the Board of Directors of Planned Parenthood of Broward and South Palm Beach Counties, the American Jewish Congress-Southeast Region, and the Westside Regional Medical Center. She has been endorsed by the Florida AFL-CIO and the mayors of several major cities in the district.
Wasserman Schultz currently has no primary opposition for this heavily Democratic seat, which was vacated by Democrat Peter Deutsch, who is running for Bob Graham’s U.S. Senate seat. Please come to WUFPAC’s fundraiser for the candidate on February 24th in Washington, DC at Local 16. For details on the fundraiser, see EVENTS. For more information about the candidate, see Candidates.
