Tessa Hafen is a third generation Nevadan. She
attended Southern Utah University and graduated magna cum laude with
a B.A. in Communication. Her
father, Andy Hafen, serves on the Henderson City Council. For
the past eight
years, she has been working for Senator Harry Reid in Washington,
D.C. Tessa
is also a substitute teacher in the Clark County School District.
Mostly composed of the
suburbs surrounding Las Vegas, the third district is located within
Clark County. It is one
of the fastest-growing regions in the country and ranges from the
metropolitan areas of Las Vegas, to the growing suburbs of Henderson, to the idyllic Lake Mead and Red Rock Canyon.
The
race for Nevada's third district has become intense. In describing
the race, a June article in the Las Vegas Sun said, "Rep. Jon
Porter, R-Nev., once considered a virtual lock against a 30-year-old
who has never held elected public office, is now thought to be in a
race so tight that both parties have targeted it as one of the
closest in the nation."
As a result, Tessa is a
candidate for the “Red to Blue” fundraising campaign sponsored
by the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee.
